Nigerian dwarf goats can breed year round. Many breeders breed their does three times every two years. We only breed our girls once a year-giving them some time off to just be spoiled! The gestation period is 145-153 days which is about five months. (Day 147 seems to be pretty popular with our girls :) We usually breed in the fall and have spring babies. Nigerians are a hearty breed with few kidding problems. Babies weigh about two pounds at birth. On average, Nubian kids weigh about 7 pounds. Does can have several kids at a time. Two and three are most common but five is not unheard of. Our kids are dam raised and our girls are good mothers producing enough milk for all their kids with no problem.
